March 2017 Events | Things to do in Denver

March welcomes the beginning of Spring, and here in Denver the social scene begins to ramp up again. With so much going on it can be hard to pick and choose between these awesome events. Following are a few of our favorite happenings around town that we think you should check out!

St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations

5k for St. Patrick’s Day Run

When: March 11th
Where: Acacia Park, Colorado Springs
Time: 9:00am
Cost: $35

This is the 33rd running of one of Colorado Springs oldest races and fits in with the second oldest parade in the community. The 5K for St. Patrick’s Day kicks off the start of the running season for runners in the Springs. For most of the previous races, the weather has been quite marvelous, with just enough of a nip in the air. The 5K is one of the fastest 5K’s in Colorado Springs and will be run on Tejon Street, starting and ending at Acacia Park. Come on Down(town) and run with thousands of other Leprechauns!!

Keggs & Eggs

This annual live music event, hosted by local radio station Channel 93.3, is a favorite of die-hard music fans each year. It kicks off early in the morning — at 7 a.m. — with green beer, whiskey, and rock performances on tap right from the get-go. The lineup for 2017 includes American Authors, Bishop Briggs and Bryce Fox.

Denver’s most infamous St. Patrick’s Day party is back and better than ever with two full days of festival action. That’s right, on Saturday, March 11 and Friday, March 17, thousands of green-clad, day-drinking warriors will flock to Fadó Irish Pub in Lodo in search of the Irish party Mecca and we can’t wait to throw down with each and every one of you. We’re filling the street with Irish dancers, live music, and enough walk-up bars to put Bourbon Street to shame. Tickets are on sale now because it’s never too early to lock in your day long passes, dust off your green gear, and get mentally prepared to lose your iPhone… again.

The Mile High City is putting on an elevated extravaganza for St. Patrick’s Day. Join in the celebration of a lifetime as Denver hosts its annual St. Paddy’s Luck of the Irish Pub Crawl. Revel in the fresh air of the Rocky Mountains as you gallop from one awesome bar to the next enjoying the hottest parties and best drink specials in LoDo. Denver is a beautiful city known mainly for its breathtaking nature landscape. But, there is so much more to explore at the bottom of the mountains. Throw on your favorite green articles of clothing and join a host of other Denver party-goers and travelers alike in toasting your brew to the patron Saint of Ireland.

ROTG is a family oriented foot race/walk that is centered around the Irish celebration of Saint Patrick’s Day and Spring. They have been voted the best post-race party and have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to Volunteers of America. Join the 29th Annual Runnin’ Of The Green at 17th and Wazee in Historic LoDo in front of Union Station on March 12th, 2017. Registration starts at 7am and the Race starts at 10:15am.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The Denver St. Patrick’s Day Parade is a festive and fun event for all ages that celebrates Irish culture and heralds the start of spring. It’s one of the largest St. Patty’s day parades west of the Mississippi, and the largest annual parade in Denver, with more than 200,000 people lining the route to enjoy horses and stagecoaches, marching bands, dancers, floats, and Irish-themed fun with a Western flair. To catch all the action, the best spectating spot is south of 20th Avenue on Blake Street (renamed Tooley Street for the parade). This area tends to be crowded, so the best place for families to watch the parade is near the end, on Blake Street from 23rd to 27th avenues.

Bring the Heat! Bring the Hope! Zach’s Chili Challenge

Zach’s Chili Challenge is a competition between Denver chefs who will Bring the Heat and Bring the Hope to help fund children’s cancer research! There will be four categories of chili, six categories of beer, and six categories of spirits which will be voted on by attendees and a handful of local Denver celebrity judges. Don’t miss this great event and one-of-a-kind chili cook off!

Simon Allen and Eddie had played together in 1997 as The Mastersounds, though with a different bassist and no organ. Through friends and the intimate nature of the Leeds music scene, Pete Shand and Bob Birch were added on bass and Hammond respectively, and The New Mastersounds were born. Though it was raw, and more of a boogaloo sound at first, it was powerful from the start.

Kings of Leon is an American rock band that formed in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1999. The band is composed of brothers Caleb Followill, Nathan Followill, and Jared Followill, with their cousin Matthew Followill. Skillet is an American Christian rock band formed in Memphis, Tennessee in 1996. The band currently consists of husband John and wife Korey Cooper. along with Jen Ledger and Seth Morrison. Regina Spektor

Regina Spektor  is an American singer-songwriter and pianist. She was born in the Soviet Union, where she began classical training on the piano at the age of six. When she was nine years old, her family immigrated to the United States, where she continued her classical training into her teenage years; she began to write original songs shortly thereafter.

After self-releasing her first three records and gaining popularity in New York City’s independent music scenes, particularly the anti-folk scene centered on New York City’s East Village, Spektor signed with Sire Records in 2004 where she began achieving greater mainstream recognition.

The Edge Grand Opening Week

When: March 17th – March 24th
Where: Denver Zoo

The Edge is a one-acre exhibit that is designed to both mimic the natural living environment of Siberian tigers and provide the zoo’s tigers with more space to explore. Throughout the exhibit, zoo designers have placed a dozen pine trees, which are found all throughout Siberia. The trees will serve as enrichment devices for the tigers living in The Edge, and they will also make the exhibit resemble the edge of a forest, which is the inspiration for the title of the expansion. Another unique feature of the exhibit will be several pools that will allow the tigers to cool off on warm summer days.

Bumblebee Jamboree

This unique indoor musical experience is perfect for children ages 0-12 and their parents. Children are invited to dress as a favorite pollinator such as a bee, butterfly or bird and dance and sing along with the musical guests. Each family-friendly indoor concert features original and traditional songs by a different musical performer, so join us for all three shows.
